Ant-Man 3 Director Cuts An Actor from Quantumania in a Live Interview
A video of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumaniadirector Peyton Reed cutting one of the film's actors during a live interview surfaced online.
The clip, taken from The Best Show podcast, sees Reed sitting down to discuss his contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with host Tom Scharpling. During the chat, the director mentions Scharpling's unfortunate history with the Ant-Man series, noting the comedian and writer filmed scenes for both the first and second movies that were ultimately cut. When the topic of Quantumania comes up, Reed delivers some unfortunate news to the host. "This is serious. This not a gag," Reed says. "So the scene we were planning to shoot, which was going to be, this is not a spoiler, but it was gonna be in San Francisco... we have had to cut." Upon hearing the news, Scharpling is visibly disappointed as Reed apologizes, admitting he shouldn't have broken the news during a live interview.
At the time of writing, the nature of the cut scene is currently unknown. Similarly, the identity of Scharpling's character was not disclosed, nor was it confirmed whether he played the same character that was ultimately left out of Ant-Man and Ant-Man and The Wasp. Scott Lang's MCU debut initially featured a moment wherein the titular superhero purchases a lottery ticket from Scharpling while the sequel saw the comedian as Burch's SUV driver in a moment teasingly described as "uncuttable."
While Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania may not feature a cameo by Scharpling, Reed has previously stated that the movie is loaded with plenty of references and Easter eggs that should satisfy MCU fans. "Oh yes, there's great fun in store for everyone and some surprising faces that may show up in the Quantum Realm," Reed said. "So yes, we're very excited."
Beyond these appearances, the director further teased that the events of Quantumania will have a major effect on the sprawling superhero franchise since the film is the official start of Phase 5. "And yeah, kicking off Phase 5 is really exciting for us, because we're the Ant-Man movies. It's our third movie," Reed explained. "It's this trilogy now. But things happen in this movie that are going to change the Marvel Cinematic Universe permanently. And it's fun for us that Scott Lang is at the center of that change."
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania arrives in theaters on Feb. 17, 2023.
