NEW YORK -- Some 150 artworks from the collection of Microsoft co-founder Paul G. Allen will be auctioned at Christie's in New York this fall and are expected to bring in more than $1 billion in total, Christie's and Allen's estate announced Friday.

The works to be auctioned span 500 years of art history from Old Masters to the giants of modern art, Christie's said, adding that all proceeds will go to philanthropy.

Allen, who co-founded Microsoft with his childhood friend Bill Gates, died from complications of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2018. In his lifetime he gave more than $2 billion to causes including ocean health, homelessness and advancing scientific research.

Highlights of the upcoming sale include Paul Cézanne's “La Montagne Sainte-Victoire,” completed in 1890 and estimated to sell for more than $100 million, and Jasper Johns' “Small False Start” from 1960, estimated at $50 million. Other details of the artworks to be auctioned were not released.

Guillaume Cerutti, Christie’s chief executive officer, said in a statement, “The inspirational figure of Paul Allen, the extraordinary quality and diversity of works, and the dedication of all proceeds to philanthropy, create a unique combination that will make the sale of the Paul G. Allen Collection an event of unprecedented magnitude.”

Jody Allen, Allen's sister and the executor of his estate, said, “These works mean so much to so many, and I know that Christie’s will ensure their respectful dispersal to generate tremendous value for philanthropic pursuits in accordance with Paul’s wishes.”

Over the flows of a week last summer, a number of street art pieces appeared in seemingly random parts of Norfolk and Suffolk. The artworks were eventually verified by Banksy, but the fate of each fraction varied drastically. What has become of them - one year on?

In early August 2021, one by one, graffiti started to travel in Cromer, Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Oulton Broad.

They bore the hallmarks of Banksy: the slogans, the humour, the anonymity, the skill.

But it took a week of nervous hope and speculation by the artist claimed responsibility in a three-minute video, titled A much British Spraycation.

It depicted him casually manager his way around the East in a battered left-hand right campervan, complete with beach windbreaker, ladders - and a cool box full of spray cans.

One of them was installed, perhaps unusually, in a ticket-only attraction.

"They would have had to have done their homework," the conventional owner of the Merrivale Model Village, Frank Newsome, said.

"We have CCTV all near the perimeter at night which would have flagged up an intruder.

"He did it in spacious daylight."

He, or they - Mr Newsome cannot be sure.

The miniature model stable by Banksy was left in secret at Merrivale Model Village in much Yarmouth, Norfolk

He said it all started when he was told that "someone had put a drone up" over the model village.

"We force to to hook this thing out of the sky with a fishing net - but I was more shrinking about the glass everywhere when it smashed," he said.

"When Banksy verified it with drone images all over the village, that's when we looked back through the CCTV."

Had Banksy been caught on camera?

"Two groups came in," Mr Newsome said. "Firstly, three lads with cool boxes for the beach. Then a company of girls and boys, wearing masks because of the restrictions at the time.

"They didn't want their portray taken at the kiosk. But then there was an almighty fracas at the new end of the village. Some of the group was shouting and swearing.

"The others must have done it then, when the staff were distracted."

Image caption,

The model village has made a replica of the contaminated and placed it where the original sat

"We peaceful didn't think it was genuine but knew we couldn't just slash it here in case it was.

"So we all babysat it in rotation and once it was confirmed, we moved it inside to safety, taking it off site every night, returning in the morning by different routes.

"I got an funds on the spot for £150,000 - then the chap came back two hours later and offered double."

In the end, the graffitied contaminated sold at auction in January to a private bidder, for £800,000.

Today, the Merrivale Model Village has a 1-to-12 scale 'Spraycation trail' built into it.

Mr Newsome, who sold up and moved to Bury St Edmunds when suffering a heart attack in December, said the entire concerns was "like a film script".

"We shouted Pest Control, who handle Banksy's affairs, just to ask 'why us'?" he said.

"She wouldn't give us any answers."

So, one year on, what has become of the new Spraycation artworks?

This mural was discovered on the side of a bridge over the Landspring Drain in Nicholas Everitt Park, Oulton Broad.

Banksy incorporated materials from nearby the site, including a corrugated metal sheet that doubled as a boat.

East Suffolk Congress said the boat was removed "over flooding concerns due to its area blocking the drain", but the art is still there, covered by a UV-stabilised polycarbonate screen to prevent it fading.

"There was an understandable buzz of speculation when the work appeared - and that felt of expectation made way for delight when Banksy confirmed responsibility," the council said.

"The now aftermath saw visitors flood to the area from across the country.

"It generated gigantic interest from the media and art world - but it also left a lasting legacy for the community."

It is leaning back on a deckchair and brandishing a cocktail - a few inches under a drain that drips waste water.

Just over a week when its discovery, the mural had been defaced with white paint.

But it's peaceful there, covered with a protective screen.

"As a council, we took action to preserve and safeguard the murals with protective screens; thought regrettably, one of the pieces was left damaged as the finish of vandalism," East Suffolk Council said.

It wasn't able to say when the restoration work would be undertaken.

Hillary Duff's hubby smashes Full House's Candace Cameron over Bruce Springsteen's epic song | Marca

Hillary Duff's burly smashes Full House's Candace Cameron over Bruce Springsteen's epic song

Hilary Duff's husband Matthew Koma made fun of Candace Cameron on TikTok during the weekend over an Instagram post where the Full House star had the full-blown benefit 'Merica attire.

The last time that we say Candace in a "he said, she said" or rather "she said, she said" scenario was when dancer JoJo Siwa named out the interaction with Cameron as rude. Cameron paused the drama by quoting the bible and involving her daughter in the mix.

In the post, she had the red white, and blue all over, in the background we can hear her playing "Born in the USA" and wishing everyone a gloomy fourth of July.

Now Matthew Koma went hard on her revealing that in the following post the song she was playing wasn't made because it was a celebration, it was actually a protest song from "The Boss" Bruce Springsteen.

Original post

Kome's post

Kome went hard revealing "Yeah that, the song you're playing? Yeah, it's near veterans coming home from Vietnam and being treated like s-t. Yeah, it's not near the Fourth of July,".

She is proud of bodies born in the USA

"I mean, c'mon, would you interrogate anything less from me?" she said while wearing a "God Bless America" and a "God is Good" baseball cap.

"Happy Fourth of July!

The singer a.k.a "The Boss" gave an interview back when the song was in the charts and booming, and he opened up about the story behind the song.

A song of rebellion

"That some song fell into a certain social context. The land had veered to the right, and the Republicans at the time were basically attempting to co-opt anything American," he said. "'Born in the U.S.A.' was a song of rebellion."

"This is a song near the pain, glory, shame of identity and of place,"

"So it's a complex report of the country. Our protagonist is someone who has been betrayed by his drive and yet still feels deeply connected to the land that he grew up in," Springsteen also said.

Olivia and ex Jason were in a relationship for nearly a decade from 2011 to 2020 and in the same interview, she blasted her former fiancé for serving her custody papers in Pertikaian of a large audience while onstage at the 2022 CinemaCon in April.

The actress called the ugly incident 'an attack on her workplace', but said she was not surprised at it happening because there was a 'reason' she left that relationship.

Four months ago, Olivia was on stage at the ComicCon event in Las Vegas to promote her upcoming film Don't Worry Darling when she was ambushed with a petition from Jason - who wanted their children to live with him in New York City.

Awkward: Olivia also blasted her former fiancé for serving her custody papers in Pertikaian of a large audience while onstage at the 2022 CinemaCon in April

A source close to the former couple told DailyMail.com exclusively in April that Jason had 'no idea' the papers were being served to her in that way.

Meanwhile, Olivia recently received a legal win when a judge ruled California was the home state of their kids and last week an insider told People that she 'wants to focus on what's best for the kids' and opened up about their custody issues.

'She and Jason don't speak to each Panas bumi, so they have help communicating about the custody schedule,' the source said.

While Olivia is 'upset about the custody drama', she still wants their children to see their father 'as much as possible.'

'She hopes they can figure out the best living situation for everyone,' the insider said of the actress.

Sources say the Life Itself actress and the Ted Lasso star rarely speak, preferring to communicate through text or assistants.

She also accused the South of Heaven star of serving her custody papers 'in the most aggressive way possible,' DailyMail.com exclusively revealed.

New couple: She is currently in a relationship with Harry Styles, 28, although there is some confusion over when their romance began and exactly when she split from her ex-fiancé

Emmys 2022: Emmy Category Profiles: Limited/Anthology Series and TV Movie Categories – The Hollywood Reporter

Limited/Anthology Series and TV Movie Categories – The Hollywood Reporter

LIMITED/ANTHOLOGY SERIES

Dopesick (Hulu)

Danny Strong’s sobering and kaleidoscopic look at the opioid crisis alit 14 nominations, including directing, writing and six for sketching, and can boast a certain social import that its competitors cannot. It already won a Peabody Award and a SAG Award for Michael Keaton, who as Dr. Samuel Finnix looks unstoppable in the lead-actor-in-a-limited-series race.

The Dropout (Hulu)

Elizabeth Meriwether’s show near Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes (played by Amanda Seyfried) well-ordered out more recently than any of its competitors (March-April 2022) and is tied for the highest Rotten Tomatoes find of the lot (89 percent). Its six nominations concerned two for directing and one for writing, but it earned just one sketching nom (for Seyfried).

Inventing Anna (Netflix)

Another ripped-from-the-headlines entry is this recounting of the misdeeds of Anna Delvey, aka Anna Sorokin, whose scams were uncovered by a New York magazine exposé. Its three nominations (the others are for star Julia Garner and casting) are a category low, as is its Rotten Tomatoes find (64 percent). But it may well have been seen by the most voters.

Pam & Tommy (Hulu)

A third Hulu contender is Robert Siegel and D.V. DeVincentis’ look back at the mid-’90s theft of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s sex tape and its impacts on the stars’ careers. It feels a bit lightweight, but it did land a formidable 10 nominations, counting mentions for stars Lily James and Sebastian Stan (who play Anderson and Lee), although none for aiming or writing.

The White Lotus (HBO)

Mike White’s quirky look at class and racial tensions at a Hawaiian resort — in which guests (and workers) recognized vacations from hell — was released the longest time ago (summer 2021) but is the most nominated by far (20, counting eight acting nominations) and is tied for the highest Rotten Tomatoes find (89 percent). A second installment has already been announced.

TV MOVIE

Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers (Disney+)

Director Akiva Schaffer’s blend of live share and animation, with its title characters voiced by John Mulaney and Andy Samberg, has evoked comparisons to Who Framed Roger Rabbit, novel PG-rated, self-referential comedy. Released May 20 (more recently than any novel nominee), it’s at a solid 80 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Ray Donovan: The Movie (Showtime)

The story that would’ve been told in the Showtime drama series’ eighth and previous season, had the show not been unexpectedly canceled in February 2020, was condensed by showrunner David Hollander into this film, which reunited the unique cast, led by Liev Schreiber, and stands at a category-high 87 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Reno 911!: The Hunt for QAnon (Paramount+)

The Cops parody that ran on Comedy Central from 2003 to 2009, and briefly thereafter on Quibi and The Roku Channel, returns for another off-the-wall story about hapless law enforcers, this time venturing on an alt-right booze cruise. It wasn’t widely enough reviewed to have a Rotten Tomatoes counting, but it was rated abysmally by viewers.

The Survivor (HBO)

Barry Levinson targeted Ben Foster in this drama — not a true made-for-TV movie, but an acquisition from 2021’s Toronto International Film Festival — near an Auschwitz prisoner who literally had to fight for his life to final the Holocaust. It’s at 85 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, but Foster, who dropped 62 pounds for the role, wasn’t nominated for his leading role.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas (Roku)

This category’s only entry with multiple noms (it’s also up for choreography) revived a series canceled in June 2021 by NBC once two seasons and answered its central question: How did Zoey get her special powers? It dropped Dec. 1, longer ago than any of its competitors, but delighted fans (who rated it 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes).

This story friendly appeared in an August stand-alone issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.

The Looks Coming Out Of The CMA Fest ABC Special

Over 30 Country Music acts pick up on one stage in Nashville to raise money for music education

The conventional coming out of tonight’s Country Music Association (CMA) Fest’s ABC special is stellar, with stage performances and hosts having a touch a Country in their looks. The Fest returns tonight at 8/7c on ABC and on Hulu tomorrow- from having premiered live at the 49th CMA Fest in June, in Music City.

Tonight, there are 30 performances happening over 3 hours. Opening the special was Academy of Country Music Award Winner Kane Brown, who sang his hit ‘I Love You Like I like Country Music.’ Looking more like a Hip-Hop artist, Brown donned black fitted jeans and a white t-shirt and a sunless baseball hat with the words “family.” Dierks Bentley, who is hosting the Fest with Elle King partakes in a memorable collaboration with the 1992 ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ singer Billy Ray Cyrus. “Onstage she’s just a riot and also super talented - a spacious combination of talent with comedic humor. A lot of spontaneous moments between the two of us and just a lot of laughs,” says Bentley of King.

Bentley wore an army green t-shirt and blue jeans, while Cyrus rocked black jeans, black t-shirt and a leather jacket, and sunglasses and black cowboy hat. Another memorable duo for the night is Wynonna Judd and Carly Pearce. Judd received a long-standing ovation for the death of her noted mother Naomi Judd, a Grammy-winning Country Music singer who died in April. Judd, in her quintessential style sparkled in black with fringes, while Peace donned a short sparkling pink dress.

A theme with many of the female artists tonight has been heavenly ensembles whether that be Carrie Underwood’s thigh high and flaming yet heavenly boots, and red sparkling top. Kelsea Ballerini wore a heavenly jump suit with silver, nude, and black accent designs. Or if it wasn’t sparkles, it was bell-bottom pants. Lainey Wilson sang, ‘Never Say Never,’ with Cole Swindell. The ‘Heart Like A Truck Singer’ isn’t seen a day exclusive of flared pants.

The men in Country Music tend to keep it simple with jeans and a t-shirt, like Grammy-winning artist Darius Rucker who wore a sunless Rolling Stones t-shirt from their 1975 tour, blue jeans, and cowboy boots and a baseball hat. Rucker commanded the audience to a roar with his ‘Wagon Wheel,’ and took to the stage with Zac Brown Band to sing with the troupe. Zac Brown wore a noticeable felt fedora hat, jeans and a collared shirt. Luke Combs wore what he wears best on stage, his usual and what he wears for every stage performance, jeans and a black Columbia fishing shirt, while singing “Beer Never Broke My Heart.” Jason Aldean wore a yellow Dolly Parton t-shirt and blue jeans, but with a cowboy hat and cowboy boots. And Thomas Rhett wore blue jeans, a buttoned-down shirt and baseball hat as he sang ‘Slow Down Summer.’

CMA Fest began in 1972 as Fan Fair®, drawing 5,000 fans to Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium. Almost fifty ages later the festival takes place over four days sketch people from all states and thirty-nine countries, who now terrestrial at the Nissan Stadium. Artists who take to the stage each night don’t right funds from ticket sales, yet proceeds go towards high-quality music programs nearby the US through the CMA Foundation. The Festival has partnered with the most TV networks, and tonight ABC Entertainment is airing the specials.

Old Dominion, Elle King and Ashley McBryde sang a duet, Parker McCollum, and Brothers Osborne are other acts that took to the stage. The group Lady A brought the crowd to a roar. Hillary Scott, the lead and background vocalist wore a 70s’ style white Heart covered in floral patterns.

“The festival itself may be over, but thanks to these two, depressed with a solid slate of performances and special collaborations, the party continues in homes across America. It was a fun challenge to think differently with our setup these last two ages, but it felt great to be back with a full house at the stadium,” says Robert Deaton, CMA Fest Executive Producer.

Vintage crockery inheritors share memories of precious family heirlooms - The Hindu

Vintage crockery inheritors share memories of precious family heirlooms

Amidst a global revival of interest in vintage crockery, your grandmother’s teapots may be more valuable than ever before

Amidst a global revival of interest in vintage crockery, your grandmother’s teapots may be more valuable than ever before

Adrian D’Cruz and his wife Althea hold their family’s memories in their dinner sets. Photographs do their job, but it is when Althea looks at the heirloom crockery that she remembers her mother-in-law, Jossie D’Cruz, who was “a great giver of parties”. Part of what made the parties special was her pretty porcelain.

Retired senior shipping executive Adrian and Althea have preserved the heirlooms in mint condition, taking them out only on very rare occasions. For instance, the last time they used it was when Adrian’s extended family got together in Fort Kochi, where Adrian lives, 10 years ago.

One is a Kutani (traditional Japanese porcelain) hand-painted set for six in white and silver, about 80 to 100 years old. The other is a white and gold set with bamboo prints. “We inherited this particular set for eight from my father’s family and it is definitely over 70 years old. It only has a Chinese inscription and I don’t know where it is from,” says Adrian.

For inheritors of vintage crockery, it is a tangible slice of family history — something that brings back warm, fuzzy memories of lively dinners or a favourite grandparent who loved his or her tea in the special bone china cup.

There has been a growing interest in vintage tableware, especially in the past year, says Dayna Isom Johnson, Trend Expert at Etsy, which has over 44,000 vintage dinnerware listings to date. “Shoppers have been gravitating towards nostalgic pieces and accents that are reminiscent of decades past. We’re seeing a return to all things retro and this year, shoppers are focussing on self-expression with many turning to vintage items as a sustainable alternative that adds character to their spaces while spotlighting their personal style,” she adds.

Popular Blue Willow

For new collectors, Blue Willow china holds special charm. Believed to have been developed in 1779 in England, the design is said to have taken British tea tables by storm. The crockery had motifs of a weeping willow, pagodas, three men on a bridge and a pair of swallows. In blue and white, these were said to be inspired by Chinese crockery. Today, these are popular on various e-commerce sites selling vintage collectibles. A blue willow teapot, creamer, and sugar bowl set of 1910-1920 vintage can cost up to ₹14,374 (on Etsy), while a rare English antique ceramic tea set, made in England by Spode Copeland in the 1890s, with an Imari pattern, is available for ₹1,28,556.

Value your ceramics

Sotheby’s, one of the largest brokers of fine art, jewellery, and collectibles, can tell you how much your object is worth and offers guidance on how to sell it. The prospective seller just needs to submit photographs of the objects along with the basic information and a team of specialists will value the free of cost. www.sothebys.com

Food consultant, and author of multiple books on Anglo-Indian cuisine, Bridget White Kumar in Bengaluru treasures the Blue Willow crockery that she inherited from her mother. Containing sandwich plates, elongated platters with curly edges and gold piping, soup plates, a teapot and more, the 86-piece dinner set (Royal Doulton’s Will O’the Wisp) was part of her mother’s trousseau, which was divided between Bridget and her siblings when they got married. “I don’t know the exact year of manufacture, but I am sure these pieces would be at least over 100 years,” she says. While some have browned over the years, some are still as good as new, decorating her crockery cupboard.

Born and raised in the Kolar Gold Fields, Bridget (69) reckons it was bought in the early 1950s, when foreign good were prized. She rarely uses them as she cannot bear to see them chipped or broken: instead she has converted some into wall decor.  “Also, who is entertaining these days? After COVID-19, we have stopped visiting and receiving guests altogether. For me, these are part of precious memories of my mother,” she says.

A museum of memories

Betty Karunakaran, founder of the Revi Karuna Karan Museum in Alappuzha, Kerala, converted her love for vintage crockery into art. A collector of fine antiques from around the world, Betty’s exhaustive collection of porcelain, is now part of the exhibits at the museum, which she built in memory of her husband, a coir exporter and former director of Industrial Development Bank of India, in 2006.

While she inherited heirlooms collected over generations by Revi’s family, Betty herself had an eye for all things unique and pretty. She picked up rare collectibles from all over the world. “I have got delicately-coloured Dresden china, ornate Meissen from Germany, considered one of the finest of porcelain, Herend from Hungary and English fine-china Wedgwood to mention a few. They don’t make these anymore. While I have used some of them for family dinners, others have just been preserved as show pieces,” says Betty. Her vintage crockery collection includes Capo di Monte and Armani from Italy, Lladró from Spain, Noritake from Japan, Limoges from France, and Delft from Holland.

For the stories

Thomas Kuriyan’s house in Switzerland is a veritable museum of antiques. With a collection of over 500 Fore Edge antiquarian books, hundreds of pieces of silverware, crystal ware, cutlery, bookmarks and Panas bumi antique collectibles, Thomas believes the beauty of these objects is one thing, but their stories are what endears them to him. “I don’t just pick up stuff, I try to unearth at least some of their stories as well,” says Thomas whose collection includes a few ornamental porcelain tea caddies by Meissen, Nymphenburg, Bavaria Selb and Rosenthal.

“Tea and sugar were expensive in the 18th to 20th centuries and only the wealthy could afford it. The vessels (tea caddies and sugar bowls) used to store them were made of the most expensive materials at that time. Porcelain, which was called white gold, silver, ivory, and exotic woods such as mahogany and ebony were used,” he says. Thomas goes to auctions all over the world to look for things that interest him. “Old porcelain is very valued. The older the crockery, the more exponential the price. For instance, a tea saucer made in the 1700s can cost anywhere between $3,000 (over ₹2lakh) to $5,000 (close to ₹4 lakh),” he says.

Teacups of joy

Archaeologist, caterer (Euphorhea Kitchen) and writer Rhea Kawan Dalal, who lives in Mumbai, believes that the best way to pay tribute to the ancestry of these pieces is to use them. She uses her pale blue Noritake dinner sets bequeathed to her by her mother-in-law. She also treasures a Royal Albert dinner set that her father bought her mother on his first trip abroad — a four place setting with a dainty blue flower pattern known as ‘memory lane’. “My mom never used it and saved it for me and I insist on it being used and deriving joy out of it,” says Rhea, who also has in her collection, square snack plates, slightly discoloured, from the 1960s, that her aunt had in the back of her cupboard. “These were manufactured by the New Hall Pottery Company, an English company of the 1900s. These plates, were given away as freebies by Brooke Bond with their products. People collected these plates and there could be people pan India, who still have these,” says Rhea.

Renuka Krishnakumar from Thiruvananthapuram has a set of six cups and saucers in bone china that her grandfather brought home from England, where he had gone to study in the early 1900s. The hand-painted set, easily over a 100 years old, has become as fragile as eggshells and are rarely taken out. “However, I remember them gracing our childhood tea times,” says Renuka, who works with Emirates Airlines.

Ever since the pandemic began, it is clear that people have started valuing family and family heirlooms more than ever before. “Instead of hoarding, we began to use our old china, and appreciate it anew,” says Ronak Shah, an advertising professional in Mumbai, who says he “re-discovered” the Variety of Life vintage set from Corelle.

The pieces from the late 1970s had come to him when the joint family broke up into smaller units. Ronak uses the dishes for baking. With pictures of vegetables, the pieces from the set have French words written on them. “There is something sentimental about cooking my favourite peach crumble in this old dish,” says Ronak adding “I would love to pass it on to my kids.”

Wisteria love

Inspired by her love for vintage crockery, Chef Tejasvi Chandela is launching a Wisteria Collection on September 1 at her patisserie, Dzurt, in Jaipur. An ode to the purple blooms, the collection includes crockery, table runners and decor done in various shades of an English summer. Cups and dessert plates have hand-painted motifs of wisteria done by miniature artists. “My family and I have been hoarders of vintage crockery. I especially love wisteria, which is so evocative of the English summer. I have inherited heirloom crockery from my husband’s family as well as my from my mother; Wedgwood plates and cake stands, for instance. The collection is a reflection of this vintage love,” she says.

Diasporic sheen

Though delicate porcelain has its fans, the legacy of vintage enamelware is equally historic. Many Chettiar households still retain vast collections of these dishes that their ancestors brought back from their business travels to Europe. Sethulakshmi Subramanian, a Waldorf teacher from Karaikudi now settled in Chennai, has a collection of vividly coloured enamelware that she inherited from her family.

“There was a huge population of Chettiars who lived in Burma, which was a British colony. During 1860-1940, there was a mass exodus of the Chettiars from Burma. These people brought back all their belongings, of which enamelware was a big part,” Sethulakshmi says. The ones that remain from that period are mainly those made in Austria, Sweden and England. “They are made of cast iron, coated with powdered glass and enamel paint. They can be used to cook and are ideal to store milk, curd, batter and pickles. However, one has to be careful with vintage enamelware as it tends to chip and break,” adds Sethulakshmi.
